The new Nike Barcelona 16-17 away kit will be anything but dull. Set to be launched after Euro 2016, the Barcelona away shirt is dark purple with blue and pink accents, a complete novelty in Barça's away kit history.

Update (24/11/15): Well-informed, Barcelona-based sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo has followed up on the story, basically confirming the unprecedented color choice of the Barcelona 2016-2017 away kit.



Note: We earlier claimed the Barcelona 2016-17 away shirt would be teal-colored. Instead, it will be the Nike FC Barcelona 2016-17 third shirt to feature that color.

Purple Dynasty / Hyper Pink Barcelona 16-17 Away Jersey

Whereas purple has so far not been used for a Barcelona soccer jersey, an almost identical combination as the 'Purple Dynasty / Hyper Pink' of the Barcelona 16-17 away kit was used for the Barcelona training jersey in the second half of the 2014-15 season. A sign of things to come, the purple / pink Barcelona 2015 training shirt was popular among supporters.

Although the colors are almost exactly the same, it's safe to expect the Barcelona 2016-2017 away kit to boast a much more expressive overall look. For example, touches of dark blue will be incorporated to add to the Purple Dynasty base color.

In terms of the shirt design, the upcoming Barcelona 2016-17 away shirt will be based on the principles of Nike's Euro 2016 kits. The new FC Barcelona away kit is set to feature a modernistic and simplistic approach, highlighted by the use modern materials and finishes.

Continuing the design of the shirt, the shorts of the new Barcelona 16-17 away kit will also be purple and pink. Following another scheme introduced by Nike lately, the striking appearance of the new Barcelona away kit will be completed with pink socks.

All in all, the dark Barcelona 16-17 away kit will accompany the traditionally striped Barcelona 16-17 home kit which comes with a lighter color scheme than in recent years. Barcelona president Bartomeu announced it would be inspired by the 1992 Barcelona jersey.

Not decided yet is the football shirt sponsor situation, with Qatar Airways reportedly holding out and refusing to re-negotiate the initial renewal agreement reached early in the summer. A resolution of this rigid setting is not expected before the new year.
